A
BOY DROWNED
Charley Crisswell While in Swimming Gets Beyond His Depth And is Drowned.
Thursday
afternoon there was another drowning accident near town. This time it
happened in Morrill’s pond about four miles south west of the city.
The victim was a little boy eleven years old, named Charley Criswell,
son of Bert Criswell, a farmer living in the vicinity of where it occurred.
It seems that Charley Creswell and a boy named Tommy Dawson, were at the
pond and decided to go in swimming. The water is very deep in some places,
and the Criswell boy got into a hole that was about eight feet deep. Being
unable to swim of course he sank. The boy that was in with him could swim
a little and tried to rescue his companion, but was unable to do so. The
drowned boy’s brother was also in the party, though he did not go
in swimming but remained on the bank.
The boy’s father was sent for, but could not find the body, as it
had sunk. Finally Henry Morrill arrived, and diving to the bottom of the
pond, he found the body and pulled it to the surface, after which it was
taken home. Undertaker Kyger was sent for and prepared the remains for
burial. The funeral took place at Richmond church this afternoon.
Chas.
Chriswell
On late Thursday
evening at about 4 o’clock, occurred the death of Chas. Chriswell,
by drowning. The boy was bathing in Stink creek in company with some other
boys when the sad incident occurred.
Chas. Was the eleven year old son of Mr. And Mrs. Bert Chriswell who live
about three and a quarter miles north of this place. He was a winning
and obedient child, loved by all who knew him, and the parents and relatives
have the deepest sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement.
The funeral services were held at the home with Rev. Dawson officiating,
and the remains were laid to rest in the Blackwell cemetery.
