DEATH
At 5 o'clock on the morning of July the 17th, Fred Elmer Cragin Jr., the
nineteen month old son of Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Cragin, died of spinal meningitis.
For 5 months the little fellow's life has hung in the balance. Doctors
from the first have given little encouragement for his recovery; but a
parent's love aided by skilled nursing would not give up and by dint of
persistent effort have held off the fell destroyer for 5 long months,
at last however, came the day when nothing could avail and the love of
a happy home had to suffer one of those rude shocks that fills the soul
with inexpressible sorrow and causes it to turn with wishful inquiry toward
the impenetrable vale-a shock that brings to us with all its force and
fatality-the "fickleness of life", God however, is kind, and
time the great arbiter can bind the bleeding heart and soothe the racked
nerves and gently turn into new channels a love that would follow the
object of its adoration even into the great unknown. If in addition, one
is the happy possessor of that faith which passeth understanding, then
may the affliction eventuate in a blessing, albeit the grief was well
nigh unbearable.
The funeral was held from the residence Thursday at 2 o'clock p.m., the
Rev. Curtis, pastor of the Presbyterian church at Caldwell, Kansas, conducting
the services.
