Buried
Sunday -W R Constant
W. R. Constant, formerly a resident of this city, died at the home of
his son, James, at Hackney, Kans., Friday night, January 13, and the body
was brought here for burial Sunday. The funeral services were at the Presbyterian
church Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. Thos. F. Barrier of that
church, officiating. Rev. Barrier being unable to go to the cemetery.
John H. Crawford conducted the short burial service at the grave.
Mr. Constant had many friends in this city and county and was recognized
as a man of sterling worth. His wife died while they lived here in October,
1903, and the old gentleman has gradually failed since her death, and
his chief desire was to join her. He was confined to his bed for nearly
five months and would have gladly welcomed death any hour during that
time. He was born in Hart county, Kentucky, March 9, 1834, and was married
to Melissa Wright, Dec. 9,1863. Seven sons and one daughter survive to
revere the memory of a devoted husband, and father. The daughter, Mrs.
P. S. Teter, and sons, Frank, Elliot M., and Tom. Live in this county;
James, lives in Cowley county, Kans. The other sons, John, O. B. and Robert,
live in the new country and were unable on account of the weather to attend
the funeral, the others all being in attendance.

W.
R. CONSTANT DEAD
W. R. Constant died
Friday night, at Hackney, Kansas. Mr. Constant was seventy-one years old,
and died simply because the machinery of life was worn out. His aged wife
died a little more than a year ago, and since that, he has ceased to care
to live. He said he had nothing to live for, and at times it was difficult
to prevail on him to take his medicine. His remains arrived in Blackwell
at 1:00 o’clock Sunday, and the funeral was from the Presbyterian
church, at 2:00 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Barrier.
