DROWNED IN THE RIVER

On Monday afternoon, Hughie Clark, aged about 9 years, who was living at Braman with his uncle Hugh Johnson, together with two other boys of about his own age went to the Chicaskia river, about two miles from Braman for a swim. In the evening the two boys returned home, but Hughie was not with them and when asked where he was finally admitted that they saw him go under and were so scared that they hurriedly left and went home. As soon as it was known that the boy was drowned a message was sent to Blackwell for dynamite with which to raise the body from the bottom. In the meantime the river was dragged in an effort to find the body. Quite a number from here went up to assist in the search several parties going in boats and the electric launch. Wires have been stretched across the river at the bridges in this city to stop the body should it float down the stream. Hughie Clark was a brother of the adopted daughter of Mr. And Mrs. J. L. Strong and a nephew of Mrs. Johnson, the Millliner.
Later – The body was found at about noon Wednesday in a hole in the river where the boys had been playing on a log.
