Saturday, September 16, 1899, was a sad day in the lives of Mr. And Mrs. Homer Chambers of this city. On that day their little daughter, Lorena Fern, which for almost two years had brought light and gladness into their home fell asleep in that final rest which awaits us all. She was born on the twenty-fourth day, of November, 1897. Frail and slight during her first year of life it seemed that she would depart before reaching her first mile-stone, but this past she developed into a sturdy, healthful child whose every action indicated strength and vigor. Her last illness was of but two days duration when the summons came.
The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church at one o’clock on Sabbath afternoon conducted by Rev. Jas. R. E. Craighead and attended by a large number of sympathizing friends.
The baby wept;
The mother took it from the nurse’s arms.
And hushed it’s fears and soothed its vain alarms;
And baby slept.
Again it weeps;
And God doth take it from the mothers arms,
From present griefs and future unknown harms.
And baby sleeps.
