Mr. W. F. Bridges, whose death we chronicled last week, was a resident
of Tonkawa for over a year, but was not so widely known on account of
having been confined to his bed almost the whole of that time by locomotar
ataxia. He was a man of sterling character and won the esteem of all who
met him by his patient Christian bearing all through his sickness. His
strong abiding faith in the love and care of God, which never failed him
impressed all who were with him. He was born in Canada Aug. 14th, 1847.
Thirty years of his life were spent in Iowa, from which place he came
to Oklahoma. For years he was an earnest member of the Presbyterian church
and on Wednesday evening he obeyed the Master’s summons to come
up higher. On Thursday afternoon appropriate services were conducted at
the house by Rev. E. M. Snook, pastor of the Presbyterian church, where
a large number of friends were present. On Friday morning Mrs. Bridges
and her two sons left with the body for Fonda Iowa, his old home where
funeral services were held and the body was interred.
