Sad Accident

Yesterday at Cross a child of D. L. Bragg and wife, of that place, aged one year and twelve days, fell into a candy bucket containing some milk and was dead when found a few minutes later. The child, which was just beginning to walk, was playing about the room where its mother and a neighbor woman were at work. Unnoticed by the women, the child managed to open the door and toddled out on the porch where the candy bucket with a small quantity of milk in the bottom, had been left earlier in the day. The child had evidently leaned over the edge of the bucket, lost its balance and fallen in with its face in the milk in such a position that it strangled to death without being able to move or make an out-cry. When found, which the mother thinks was inside of three minutes after it was missed from the room, the child was in the position in which it had fallen, with its face in the milk and its feet protruding above the rim of the buckets. A physician was hastily summoned and everything possible done in the hope that life was not yet extinct, but it proved a vain hope. Funeral services were held at the home the afternoon, attended by many sympathizing friends and neighbors.- Ponca City Courier
