OBITUARY

Private Cecil Kennith Bottenfield was born in Oblong, Illinois, January 26, 1896, and died at Camp Logan, Houston, Texas, January 17, 1919, at the age of 23. He entered his country’s service Sept. 3, 1918; was a member of Company B., 79th infantry and gave his life for his country. Cecil was a home boy and often expressed the hope that he might be permitted to return to the farm home and take the care and responsibility off of the shoulders of his parents. He was a young man of clean habits and of pure morals. His comrades in service bear testimony that he never yielded to the temptations of camp life. His pocket testament showed frequent reference to Romans 14th chapter, “For none of us liveth of himself. For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; or whether we die, we die unto the Lord; whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.”
He leaves to mourn his loss, his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Bottenfield; two brothers, Glenn and Murel; two sisters, Bertha and Blanche; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Mary Smith and Mrs. Maggie Newbold, both of Oblong, Illinois. Services were conducted at Fyffe’s chapel and the body laid to rest in I. O. O. F. cemetery with military honors.
