Death of Philip Beatty

The body of Philip Beatty, who died at Dexter New Mexico, Wednesday afternoon, November 14 was brought to this city for interment, and arrived accompanied by his mother Mrs. F. A. Beatty, Friday afternoon. Rev. Early of the Baptist church and other friends went up to Wellington, Kans., to accompany Mrs. Beatty and the rest of the way home, and many friends met her at the depot here and went with her to her home on East Bridge street. The funeral was held from the Baptist church, Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Early of that church and attended by a large crowd of sympathizing friends. The floral tributes were many and beautiful and in a measure showed the esteem in which Philip was held by his many friends. He was a young man of excellent promise and his death seems peculiarly sad. but he was blessed in having with him at the end his devoted mother who counted no sacrifice too great if she could only be of comfort to him in his last hours. The following by one who knew and loved him well.
"Philip Beatty was born in Johnson City, Kans., Oct. 4th, 1887; died Nov. 14, 1906, of acute consumption, at Dexter, New Mexico. He was taken sick sometime during the month of September and in four weeks went to New Mexico, where he thought he would be benefited by the high altitude. He and his mother started October 16, and he stood the journey very well, but as time went by he became gradually weaker. Sometimes he seemed better, but never gained any strength. He was bright, cheerful, and hopeful, never giving up for a moment; talking all the time would say he was the Lord's will. He was brave and so patient and said so after, 'All is Well;' was conscious until the last, asking his mother to pray and also prayed a beautiful prayer and said, 'I am perfectly resigned to the Lord's will.'
" 'Oh death where is thy sting, oh grave where is thy victory.'
"
