Death of Philip Beatty The body
of Philip Beatty, who died at Dexter New Mexico, Wednesday afternoon,
November 14 was brought to this city for interment, and arrived accompanied
by his mother Mrs. F. A. Beatty, Friday afternoon. Rev. Early of the Baptist
church and other friends went up to Wellington, Kans., to accompany Mrs.
Beatty and the rest of the way home, and many friends met her at the depot
here and went with her to her home on East Bridge street. The funeral
was held from the Baptist church, Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev.
Early of that church and attended by a large crowd of sympathizing friends.
The floral tributes were many and beautiful and in a measure showed the
esteem in which Philip was held by his many friends. He was a young man
of excellent promise and his death seems peculiarly sad. but he was blessed
in having with him at the end his devoted mother who counted no sacrifice
too great if she could only be of comfort to him in his last hours. The
following by one who knew and loved him well. BEATTY-
Died, at Dexter, N.M., Wednesday, Nov. 14, 1906, of tuberculosis, Phil,
son of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Beatty, aged about 24 years. The deceased was
well known to Blackwell people, having lived here with his parents since
the foundation of the town in 1893. Some weeks ago he began to fall from
the inroads of the dread disease, and went with his mother to New Mexico
in the hope of benefiting his health. But his condition grew worse and
on Wednesday his death occured.
