RED ROCK HOLDUP AND MURDER

Tuesday night about 8 o’clock two men went into the Swartz store at Red Rock, held up the clerk and a few customers and robbed the safe of $350. At this time Alven Bateman, of the Foster Lumber company entered. He saw that something was up and opened fire hitting one bandit in the leg. The return fire sent a bullet into his head and one into his thigh. He soon died. The robbers escaped into the darkness and were safely out of the way before officers started in pursuit. The Ponca City officers were promptly notified but no one answering either description showed up here. One of the men was dressed as a woman. – Ponca City Courier.
