Dan Bain

Dan Bain, Ponca City resident, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, in Integris Baptist Memorial Hospital, Oklahoma City. He was 75.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, in Miller-Stahl Funeral Chapel with Danny W. Cornish officiating. Interment will follow in Newkirk Cemetery. Miller-Stahl Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial fund has been established with VFW Clarence Pond Post 4979, Newkirk. Contributions may be made in Mr. Bain's name through Eastman National Bank, Box 468, Newkirk, OK 74647-0468.

Dan Bain was born Aug. 12, 1931, in the Uncas area, the son of Harry Ross "Ponk" Bain and Frances Maureen Pitman Bain. He began his education in Uncas and attended Newkirk High School. In 1947 Dan joined the United States Navy and fought in Korea aboard the USS Iowa. Following his discharge from the Navy, Dan returned to the Midwest and eventually settled in Wichita. He was employed as an over the road truck driver.

In 1971 Dan and Violet Schaus were married in Maize, Kan. They established their home in Wichita where they lived until her death in June 26, 1993. In 2000 Dan moved to Ponca City to be closer to his three sisters.

Dan was a member of VFW Post 4979 in Newkirk and the American Legion Post 14 in Ponca City. A lifelong fan of the Oklahoma Sooners and the Kansas City Chiefs, he was also a TV sports fan. He enjoyed camping and being out of doors.

He is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Jack Haney of Ponca City; his nieces, Deborah Purvis, and Teresa Wright and her son, Geoffrey Wright, all of Saint Louis; and Dan's companion, Nancy Snow of Ponca City.

In addition to his wife Violet, he was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Margaret H. Bain on Feb. 2, 2004, and Beverly J. Purvis on May 12, 2004.

Casketbearers will be Delbert Foilles, Tom White, Bill Weber, Butch Wolf, Louis Backhaus and Rick Forshee.
