Chester Lee Armstrong Jr. Chester Lee Armstrong Jr. departed planet earth for heaven on Oct. 20, 2005. Chet died following the discovery of a brain tumor only one week before his death. His daughter Kay Ellen and his great friend Pat Moore were with him at Mercy Hospital when he passed on. A graveside service will be held Monday Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. at the Newkirk Cemetery (two miles north of Newkirk, turn right, across railroad tracks). Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home. Chet was born at the Ponca City Hospital on Oct. 2, 1926, to Hazel Stewart and Chester Lee Armstrong, Sr. He was an only child. His mother died when he was 12 years old. His aunt Christine Boyd helped raise him. Chet attended Roosevelt Elementary School and graduated from Ponca City High School. He attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating law school in 1949. Chet entered the United States Air Force and proudly served our country. He retired from the United States Air Force Reserve having achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel. On Dec. 27, 1947, Chet was united in marriage with Phyllis Garrison Armstrong (Jueschke) at the Ponca City Presbyterian Church. They were blessed with four children and six grandchildren. Chet practiced law for approximately 45 years. Early in his practice he sometimes appeared before his dad, Chester Lee Armstrong Sr., who was a district court judge. Chet practiced law many years in partnership with his two dear friends, Joe Burns and Enloe Baumert. Chet also fondly remembered working with Sharron Rogers and Annie Pittman. He was a past president of the Kay County Bar Association. Chet was greatly respected in his profession, who honored him by electing him as a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Chet enjoyed golfing, flying airplanes, cleaning and driving his cars, and boating. He also loved his family and his dogs. Chet's son, John Charles, was very close to him and helped him in many ways the past few years. Chet was extremely proud of his daughter, Kay Ellen, and son, Lee, for following in his footsteps as attorneys. He was well respected
and will be dearly missed. |
