Funeral Services Held for Mrs. C. D. Allen


TONKAWA, April 16-Mrs. C.D. Allen, 78 Tonkawa's last remaining gold star mother of the first World war, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.R. Bridwell, in Tulsa Saturday afternoon, April 13. Funeral services under the direction of McCafferty Funeral home were conducted at 2:30 p.m. today in the Trinity Methodist church, Tonkawa, with Rev. Horace F. Patten in charge of services.

Mrs. Allen, mother of 11 children, seven of whom preceded her in death, was the former Fannie Ann Simmons, born near Antioch, Wis., February 24, 1868. In 1882 she moved with her parents to Greenleaf, Kans. Where she married Clare D. Allen in 1884. In 1893 she and her husband staked a claim in the Cherokee Strip south of Hunnewell, Kans. where they lived for several years.

Mrs. Allen and her husband then moved to Nardin where they lived for several years before coming to Tonkawa in 1904. Mrs. Allen remained a resident of Tonkawa until the death of husband in 1940. She then divided her time among the homes of her children.

She is survived by one son, Norman E. Allen of Tulsa, and three daughters, Mrs. L.D. McNeil of Tonkawa, Mrs. P.E. Moss and Mrs. W.R. Birdwell, both of Tulsa, and 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
