The first issue of the Tonkawa News under the management of R. C. Whinery appeared this week and indicates that the paper has fallen into good hands. It is said that Braman is the only town in Kay county that has no saloons. And that is not because there are not saloons enough to go round, but because Braman don’t want any…May 5, 1905 Johann Hoch has been sentenced to hang for the murder of one of his wives. What it is proposed to do with him for the murder of the other ten is not known. The Grant County Vidette and the Grant County Reublican both published at Pond Creek, have been consolidated under the name of the Vidette. The Vidette is one of the really good newspapers of the territory…May 20, 1905 Wheat harvest will commence in this county either the last of this week or the first of next. The crop will probably be an average one, and fields are estimated at from 6 to 40 bushels per acre… Last night at her home on south Ninth street. Mrs. J. A. Tabor entertained her pupils of the eighth grade of the puplic schools. During the evening games were played and refreshments served, and all departed for their homes, voting Mrs. Tabor a royal teacher and hostess. Those present were: Misses Vivian Lockwood, Maud Wallace, Florence Sweet, Flo. Middleton, Mildred Headley, Ida Comstock, Nita Devore, Mattie Hix, Tessie Cravens, Leah French, Anna Stepp, Chrissie Short, Tracy Rhodes, Mattie Watrous; Messrs. Fay Abel, Claude Evans, Frank Armstrong, Arthur Hopton, Russel McMurphy, John Middledon, George Burress, Clyde Harrold, Garnett King, Byrle Taylor, Dr. Wiles…June 2, 1905 Prof. Fred Harris, principal of the Ponca City high school, left for his home near Quenemo, Kansas, this morning to remain during the summer vacation. Wm. Ramey of Chandler, prominent stock man, is in the city, the guest of Dr. Shelmidine, and will remain for the buffalo hunt at the 101 ranch. Victor Granholm, the skillful shoemaker, has moved his shop from First street to the rooms two doors east of the Farmers’ National Bank… Lee Floods ice cream is the purest and best. The handsome driving team of pure white horses; which have attracted attention on the streets the last few days, belong to W. M.
