Hilde Workman, 88, of Nacona, Texas is a member of the 101 Ranch Old Timers Association. She was with the 101 Ranch Wild West Show from 1928-1930. She rode an elephant, roped, trick rode, and had knives thrown at her by Hugh Tooman, sometimes blindfolded. Her husband Pete was with the 101 from 1925-1931. They married in 1928. He died in 1961.
Thinking back Hilde said it didn't seem to bother her to have knives thrown at her, but she got tired of Little Joe, the elephant, reaching back and biting her on the leg. One day he even ran away with her and she was a little worried what would happen before they got him stopped.
In 1993 Hilde attended the Old Timers Reunion and 100th Anniversary celebration for the 101 Ranch in Ponca City at the Marland Mansion.
