Mike Seigler Dies At 100

Ponca City News Nov. 23, 1975

Mike Seigler, a resident of this area for some 72 years, died Friday at 5 p.m. at Ponca City Nursing Home. He was 100 years old.

Born Oct. 6, 1875, in Bell, Mo., he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Seigler. He received his education near Vienna, Mo. and as a youth worked in his father’s vineyards. As a young man he was employed with the railroad, working out of Missouri and Kansas.

Seigler was married to Miss Emma Deda Dec. 26, 1900, at Vienna, making their first home there. They came to Oklahoma in 1903 where he worked for several years on the 101 Ranch. He later farmed in Osage County and in 1910 purchased a farm in Kay County. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and reading.

Mr. and Mrs. Seigler observed their 72nd wedding anniversary prior to her death Jan. 10, 1972. Seigler was a member of Sunset Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. John (Margaret) Bowman, Route 6, Mrs. Lloyd (Evelyn) Newman, Route 6 and Mrs. Vern (Ruth) Proper, 1015 W. Greenwood, also a brother, Jake Seigler of Filmore, Calif., four grand children and seven great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Seigler was preceded in death by a son George L. Seigler, Sept. 26, 1968 and a daughter, Mrs. Esther McClung, Jan. 19, 1968, his parents and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be Monday at 10 am. in Grace Memorial Chapel with Rev. Cliff Fite, pastor of Sunset Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery. The family will be at the Lloyd Newman residence on Route 6.
