Larry Williams Former 101 Ranch Hand Arrives From Perkin, N.Y. for Reunion Larry Williams came back to Ponca City Monday, on his 65th birthday, to be sure he's here to attend the 101 Ranch Reunion he helped initiate. It was a letter from Williams seeking information about old timers who rode for the 101 Ranch which set Mike Sokoll off on an organizing drive that arranged the whole thing. Williams, a Tuscarora Indian from the reservation near Pekin, N.Y. brought several members of his family, a camper and an automobile on the journey of around 1,400 miles. "I'm at last seeing my dream come true", said Williams, explaining that for more than 20 years he had been hoping to interest former 101 Ranch people into holding a reunion. This year's rodeo, which takes its name from the 101 Ranch that once attracted visitors from all over the world, has provided the time and the place. The old-timers will make the Chamber of Commerce their office headquarters, but they are scheduled to visit the site of former ranch headquarters, Cowboy Hill and the grave of Col. Zack T. Miller. They'll be guests of the Chamber at a chuck wagon feed Friday, just east of the Pioneer Woman Museum, and then will sit in special boxes at Friday's performance of the 101 Ranch Rodeo. Williams worked for the ranch in the 1920s, although he says he did more farming than cowboying. |
