Irwin A. Firrel

Irwin A. Firrel lost his left leg in World War 1 but that didn't stop him from doing what he wanted. He was a great bronc rider before he went into the Army, so when returned home he cut off a boot top and made a pocket for his stubbed leg, cut off at the knee. He rode many an outlaw until he quit bucking and without help from anyone. Irwin was also a roper and could loop a calf, slide down the lariat and tie the feet together like any other cowboy. Cowboys were for real in those days. They didn't use bucking chutes or starting gates out on the range. They had to do the best they could with what they had. Irwin died in 1972.
